The Garden of Growth!

In the grand garden of life, every person begins as a seed of potential. Within each of us lies the blueprint for something extraordinary, just as an acorn contains all it needs to become a towering oak.

But growth isn’t just about what’s inside us—it’s about the delicate balance of support and struggle, between the gardeners who nurture us and the challenges that strengthen us.

Recently, a young leader I mentor shared a powerful realization. She had been afraid to acknowledge her insecurities, seeing them as a sign of weakness. But in the right environment, with the right guidance, she discovered that acknowledging them was not weakness—it was growth.

🌱 "The seed was always enough. It just needed water, sunlight, and space to grow."

I told her:
"Everything you need is already inside you like a seed. You just needed the right environment, the right caretakers, and the will to reach for the sky."

The Mystery Beneath the Soil 🌍

When a seed first begins to grow, most of its development happens underground, unseen to the outside world.

It might seem like nothing is happening, but beneath the surface:
✅ Roots are forming.
✅ Strength is building.
✅ The foundation is taking shape.

Personal growth follows the same pattern.
Some of your most profound transformations happen internally, often before anyone else sees the results.

I think about my own journey—how my Uncle Ronnie changed my perspective with just one conversation.

Twenty years ago, he invited me to meet him at a downtown Dallas hotel.
For a kid from South Dallas, that hotel might as well have been a different planet.
But it wasn’t the luxury that changed me—it was his words:

"Don't believe what they’re telling you—there’s more to life than South Dallas."

That moment planted a seed in me. He wasn’t giving me something new—he was showing me what had been inside me all along.
I just needed the right conditions to let it grow.

When You Feel Stuck Underground 🌑

Ever feel like you’re buried in darkness? Like everyone else is blooming while you’re struggling just to break through?

🌱 Growth isn’t always visible, but it’s always happening.

Take bamboo, for example. For four years, it seems to do nothing—no visible growth aboveground. But beneath the surface, it’s building an elaborate root system to prepare for its breakthrough.

Then, in just six weeks, it grows up to 90 feet.

🔥 All that time underground wasn’t wasted—it was preparation.

I’ve been there too.
Sleeping in my car in Atlanta.
Showering at LA Fitness.
Unable to send money home to my kids.

💭 I questioned everything.
"Was I crazy for believing I could build something bigger? Was I failing, or was I just still underground?"

I didn’t know it then, but I was laying down my roots.
The connections I made, the skills I was developing, the lessons I learned in hardship—they all became the foundation for everything I built later.

🌳 Now, VendorCall and 360clean are thriving. But they were planted in the soil of my hardest days.

Just as a thriving garden needs caretakers, our growth depends on the people who nurture us in different ways.

🌊 The Waterers – Encouragers & Nurturers

Like rain to a seed, they pour belief into us when we struggle.
🗣 "You’ve got this. Keep going."
🌿 Example: My mentee, who needed the right encouragement to see her own strength.

🪵 The Stakes – Structure & Accountability

They challenge us to stay upright, even when growth is uncomfortable.

🌱 Example: My Grandmother.
She didn’t make life easy. But she taught me how to push through obstacles, how to make a way when there seemed to be none.
💡 "If you can’t find a way, make a way."

She was my stake, keeping me from growing sideways when life tried to knock me down.

✂️ The Pruners – Honest Feedback & Tough Love

They cut away what holds us back—not to hurt, but to help us grow stronger.

He saw beyond my failures and pushed me past my own limits.
💥 His discipline and high standards forced me to level up.

They shine light on possibilities we didn’t even know existed.

One conversation. One moment. One glimpse of a bigger world changed my entire trajectory.
